Consumer moods worsened slightly in June this year. This was reflected in the Consumer Confidence Index, which fell by 2.4 points from May’s level to the current 94.3 points. This result is very close to the index value in April this year (94.1 points).
The current slump in optimism is accompanied by a distinct increase in consumer worries about faster growth in prices over the coming 12 months (+ 6 percentage points). Polish consumers are also concerned about their expected financial condition over the next year. The percentage expecting their household’s situation to deteriorate has risen by 4 points to 14%. However, there are still 24% of consumers who expect improvement over this period, while the rest (62%) believe their situation will remain unchanged.
As for the component sub-indices of the CCI, the greatest fall this month was noted in consumers’ willingness to buy, falling by 3.0 points to 99.9. The lower value for this index this month is a result above all of worse ratings for the current period as favourable for the purchase of durables.
Assessment of the economic climate has also worsened slightly (-1.6 points) to the level of 86.0 points. This is linked to slightly stronger concerns among Poles about the economic situation changing for the worse over the coming year, which could be an echo of the losses caused by the recent flooding.

The CCI Consumer Confidence Index may take a value of from 0 to 200 points. The latest survey is based on the findings of a survey conducted between 10 - 17 June 2010 on a representative random-quota sample of 1014 Poles aged 15 and above.
The Consumer Confidence Index (Polish acronym: WOK) is based on questions placed in a monthly survey that has been conducted since December 1991. The population studied are inhabitants of Poland age 15 or over. The survey is conducted on a representative sample of 1000 persons. ![]()
