According to the Ipsos “Polish OTC Consumer” report, three quarters of Poles treat some of their ailments on their own. When choosing a remedy for ourselves, we primarily rely on our experience and advice from family and friends, less often from pharmacists. Only a third of Poles declare that they follow their doctor’s recommendations.

The student organisation AIESEC, in conjunction with the research company Ipsos, has completed this year's edition of the 'Employer of the Year' survey. This poll, now in its 17th year, is conducted among students in their third, fourth and fifth years of economics, and investigates their opinions, expectations and plans regarding the job market.

Occupational plans

Almost two thirds of students in the last three years of studies in economics have no preferences in regard to a specific future employer, 24% are considering a few companies to choose from, and only 6% have already opted for a specific company.

Ipsos, an international research company, has completed the second edition of its study: Facts and Myths. Poles' Nutrition and Health in an International Context. The project was conducted in Poland, Sweden, Belgium, the USA and Canada. As was the case last year, the Poles proved to be the society complaining the most about their health. Nevertheless, they continue to be "quite satisfied" with their nutrition. Compared to last year, there has been a distinct growth in the percentage of people in Poland claiming to need to live a calmer life. At the same time the number of people spending free time in front of the television has risen.

Contrary to widespread opinion, the practice of going out to a few clubs in one evening is not that popular; only one quarter of all club-goers go to more than a single establishment during one night out. For Varsovians it is very important for the club they visit to be trendy. On average a place stays in fashion for about 15 months. The average expenditure per head on an evening out in Warsaw is 90 zł.

Ipsos's report "Catering-HoReCa-On Trade - terra incognita?" was compiled following consumer research studies into consumer behaviour related to going out to clubs, discos, pubs, bars and nightclubs. The research was conducted in Warsaw and in Wrocław, its objective being to identify the motivations, preferences, opinions, needs and behaviour among people frequenting such establishments (clubs in general) and to determine common features and differences between the cities.

Poles are convinced about the harmful effect of alcohol on pregnant women. Yet friends, media and doctors tell them that consuming small amounts of red wine has a beneficial effect on expectant mothers - according to a survey conducted by Ipsos for the Rodzić po Ludzku Foundation.

Alcohol, after all, is harmful
Over two thirds of Poles (83%) had come across the information that even the smallest amount of alcohol consumed by a pregnant woman could be dangerous for the normal and safe development of the fetus, thus the child. Only 14% didn't know anything about this. Among the respondents who had encountered the opinion about the harmfulness of consuming alcohol when pregnant, over three quarters (76%) were convinced that this opinion is correct. Only 15% considered this opinion to be exaggerated.
